Did you know?
- Indiana high school students exercise less and participate in fewer physical education programs than their peers nationwide.
- Elementary and middle school kids only get half of the nationally recommended physical activity each week.
It's true that Indiana schools have been cutting back on physical fitness courses and that Hoosiers are exercising less in favor of more TV and computer time. Central Indiana, it's time to reverse that trend. It's time to get off the couch and start moving!
There are 1,440 minutes in a day. Consider using 30 of them for physical activity. (Remember, if you aren't used to exercising, consult a doctor before trying any new workout activity.)
Even small changes can make a difference. Park your car farther away from the store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Stretch when you wake up and before you go to bed at night.
It's easier to be physically active with a buddy. Start a walking group and meet twice a week to walk at the local mall or park. Rent a dance instruction tape and have an active slumber party. You can set an example for the rest of your family by being active yourself.
