About FitCity

FitCity is a collaboration funded and facilitated by The Health Foundation, United Way of Central Indiana, the City of Indianapolis, Marion County Health Department and Information and Referral Network.

It has the financial support of corporate partners including Clarian Health Partners and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and collaborates with a network of more than 100 program partners from across Central Indiana, including school-based programs, civic- and community-based programs, health care programs and services, youth development agencies and corporations. Many additional programs provide in-kind resources and guidance. For a complete list of partner programs, click here.

Vision
The work of the FitCity initiative, its partners and the community will propel the Greater Indianapolis area to become one of the fittest areas in the nation.

Mission
The FitCity initiative's mission is to provide children and adolescents, and their caregivers, in an eight-county region (Marion and seven surrounding counties) with messages about obesity, good nutrition, physical activity and healthy weight, and prompt them to be more active and eat healthier. In particular, the campaign will assist programs and provide messages in communities that traditionally are underserved and at increased risk.

FitCity is an awareness initiative and, as such, will identify relevant community resources and needs, and connect people to appropriate resources through mass and targeted communications strategies.

Goals of the initiative
  1. Motivate residents to change behaviors that contribute to obesity in their communities.
  2. Extend the reach and impact of existing community programs and services that provide fitness, nutrition and health-based options at low- or no-cost to those most in need.
  3. Strengthen connections between corporations, schools, health care facilities, churches, civic organizations and community programs and services.
